What is History and why do we study it?

History is everything that happened, took place, and was in the past. It involved culture, people, ideas, and places.
The reason I love studying history so much is because everyday I notice more and more references to history. For example the other day I was researching quotes, I stumbled upon a writer named Mark Twain. I read around 100 of his quotes and I was amazed at his beliefs. So I went to Wikipedia just to get some background info on him. When I say when he was born I was shocked. He was born in 1835 and died in 1910. I thought that Mark Twain was around 50 and still alive because of how his quotes described today. For example he has this one quote, "We have the best government money can buy." Mark Twain. I realized this by reading in between the lines from movies, news, show, books, etc... he knew this more than 100 years ago without the help of those things.

The more I learn about the past I feel that I understand more. Living in Kuwait and learning there history gave me a great in depth sight to the middle east and how they live. And whenever I go back to Canada my cousins have such a stereotypical knowledge on them, that they don't understand them and would most likely be afraid to travel their or not have a Muslim friend. Ultimately these choices make massive impacts on their lives. It restricts them to what they can do. It creates frustration because the do not get what other cultures mean and it almost always ends in conflict.

Its also good to study history because you can always pull out facts or ideas for helping you in almost any situation. Also it helps creating new or improved ideas because you can make creations based of past failures.

Those are just some of the few examples at why history is important and should be studied.
