Imagine someone saying to you, "Learning about the Byzantine Empire isn't very important since it's long gone!" What would you tell them in order to change their mind?
I would say, "We learn about the past but specifically in this case the Byzantine Empire so that we can understand more about ourselves as people. We also learn about the Byzantine Empire to see the effects it has played on todays modern world, to see the mistakes we made in the past so it doesn't happen again and to learn from them how to shape the future. We learn about the byzantine empire so that we can understand different cultures and races so that we do not judge and criticize there ways, which start conflicts.
This is a great start to your post however I would like to see more specific details/examples as to why we should study the Byzantine Empire. Your current answer is vague...
